Why not go Barefoot for an evening out?
The Barefoot Kitchen Café at Gunwalloe near Helston is changing shape.
Having recently appointed a new chef, Harry Fricker from North Devon, the café is expanding its repertoire to include grilled and chargrilled food. The focus is on seafood kebabs - prawns, scallops, squid and catch of the day served on flatbread, microsalad and a choice of salsa and dressings. Beef, lamb and halloumi will be on the menu too - great with Barefoots own chilli jam. The Barefoot Café cellar will be stocked with a small range of wines supplied by Jamie Tonkin of Old Chapel Cellars in Truro. For breakfast, bluberry pancakes with bacon, smoked salmon and scrambled eggs will be served from 10am to 11.30am, lunch from noon to 2.30pm and dinner from 6pm to 9pm, Thursday to Sunday. The café has panoramic views across Mount's Bay. On fair days you can sit in the garden and watch the sun go down and on damp days the woodburner will blaze to take off the chill. Watch out for special events with guest chefs, music evenings and occasional film and theatre events - www.barefootkitchen.com/cafe You can even check the weather on the webcam. Shop for gifts and stuff for the beach, and if you dine you can leave your car in the car park and walk down to Church Cove or Gunwalloe Fishing Cove along the Cornish coastal path which runs through the grounds. The café has parking for 40 cars, so there's plenty of space. If you feel like taking it really easy , the Barefoot holiday house is just next door. The Tower, cabin and observatory are available for dinner, bed and breakfast - www.halzephronhouse.co.uk Contact 01326 240517 or 07768 094686.
